About the NANBF

The NANBF represents the sport of natural bodybuilding and the healthy lifestyle it embodies through education, promotion, inspiration, and competition. This year we are moving forward with amazing promoters throughout the United States. It is our goal to continue to provide a fair competitive platform as we support our natural athletes. We would also like to continue to bring awareness to the public regarding drug-free competitions and how it can have such a positive impact on your life.

The history of the NANBF

This organization was founded by Jim Evans in Minnesota in the early 80′s, the North American Natural Bodybuilding Association (NANBA), with a goal to promote drug-tested bodybuilding shows. Through the 80′s and early 90′s, under the leadership of Jim Evans and later Lee Graese, the association became the leader in the drug-free movement. The organization then changed leadership and the momentum was lost.

In 1994, the state chair people, regional chair people, and promoters met and decided that a new direction, and in essence, a new beginning was required. Three individuals stepped forward to head up the reorganization: Scot Dickerson from Des Moines, Iowa; Dave Cammon from Flint, MI; and Todd Mills from Omaha, NE. Under their leadership, a new organization was formed and the North American Natural Bodybuilding Federation (NANBF) was born.

While under the leadership of Fred Rowlett the organization and its membership grew. NANBF membership base includes members in almost all 50 states. In addition, we are proud to be affiliated with other drug-tested organizations throughout the USA & Canada.
